Terms of Service

These terms cover the GridWits iOS app and this website. By using either, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use GridWits.

GridWits is operated by Jeet Oza.

GridWits is not offered anywhere in Europe — including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Türkiye, Russia, Ukraine, and the Western Balkans — or in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Canada, South Korea, New Zealand, China mainland, or Vietnam.

GridWits is an online puzzle game with limited ancillary social features, not a social-media service. Puzzle play is its primary purpose; profiles, friends, private-game and tournament code sharing, rooms, and rankings exist to support that gameplay.

1. Who can use GridWits

Account-free offline play, including Daily Puzzles, has no minimum age. You must be at least 18 years old to create or use an online account or any online feature. Before online login, the app prefers Apple's Declared Age Range service on supported systems to determine whether a shared range establishes age 18 or older. An on-device birth-month/year check is used only as a fallback where the Apple check is unavailable and is not required by the applicable region. If local law requires a higher minimum, you must also meet that requirement.

2. Your account

You may use offline solo play and play Daily Puzzles without creating an account. Offline Daily attempts and results stay on that device and are not ranked, do not earn online XP or Coins, and cannot be submitted for ranking after you sign in later that day. Daily leaderboards, tournaments, profiles, friends, chat, rooms, rankings, coins, and online progress require an online account. Before creating one, the app explains the associated online data use and completes the 18+ check. An Apple-shared age range, its declaration metadata, and any fallback birth month/year are used only on-device for that check and are not stored or sent to GridWits servers. Only an on-device 18+ eligibility flag is retained, and it is cleared when you sign out, leave guest mode, or delete the account. You may use an anonymous online account or link an account using Apple or an email sign-in link.

If you leave guest mode, the app disables online access but retains that anonymous account's Firebase credential on the same device. Choosing “Resume as guest” resumes the same account and profile rather than creating another one. Leaving guest mode does not delete the account; use Delete Account if you want it and its deletable data removed.

You are responsible for activity on your account. Do not impersonate another person, and do not choose a display name or handle that is offensive, misleading, or infringes someone else's rights. We may reclaim a handle that breaks these rules.

You can delete an online account at any time from Profile → Delete Account. Offline solo creates no account to delete.

3. Community conduct

GridWits includes friends, private-game and tournament code sharing, and tournaments. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. There is no free-text or emoji chat: messages can only carry an active GridWits-validated private-game or tournament code. The text you choose yourself — your display name, and the name of any group you create — is what these rules mostly govern. You agree not to:

You can block any player and report any message or account from inside the app. We review reports and may remove content, restrict features, or terminate accounts that break these rules — without notice where the behaviour is severe.

4. Fair play

Tournaments and daily puzzles put every player on the same board. Automating solves, sharing solutions during a live event, or manipulating results undermines that, and we may void results, reset progression, or close the account. The Official Tournament Rules govern tournament eligibility, timing, ranking, ties, outages, disqualification, and virtual-Coin awards.

5. Virtual items

GridWits has no in-app purchases and takes no payments. Coins are earned inside the app and cannot be bought.

Coins and any other virtual item are a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to use them inside GridWits. They have no cash value, cannot be sold or exchanged outside the app, and are forfeited if your account is closed for breaking these terms.

If in-app purchases are added later, they will be processed by Apple through the App Store under Apple's terms, we will never handle your payment details, and refund requests will be handled by Apple rather than by us.

6. Our content

GridWits, its puzzle generators, solvers, technique guides, artwork, and name belong to us. You may play the puzzles and share screenshots of your own play. You may not copy, decompile, resell, or build a competing product from the app or its generated content.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of what you write — your display name, your handle, the name of any group you create, and the game or tournament codes you share. You grant us the licence needed to store and display it so the app works (for example, delivering your message to its recipient). We may remove content that breaks these terms.

8. Availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, including online services such as tournaments, leaderboards, and chat. We will give reasonable notice where we can. Solo play is designed to keep working offline.

9. Disclaimer and liability

GridWits is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost progress or virtual items. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing here limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law in your country.

10. Termination

You may stop using GridWits and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms. Sections 5 through 9 survive termination.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will update the date above and notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use GridWits after that means you accept the new terms.

12. App Store terms

If you download GridWits from Apple's App Store, your licence to install and use the app is subject to Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These GridWits Terms supplement that agreement and govern GridWits accounts, online services, community conduct, tournaments, virtual items, and this website. If these Terms conflict with Apple's Standard EULA about the app licence, Apple's Standard EULA controls to the extent of that conflict. Apple is not responsible for operating GridWits or its online services.
