This ship run is already as long as the longest ship still unplaced — it can't grow, so the cells at its ends are water.

How it works

  1. 1Say every bigger ship is already found, so nothing longer than 2 is left to place.
  2. 2The rows above and below are already water — every one of their cells is diagonally next to one end of this run or the other, so Diagonal Water swept them both.
  3. 3That leaves only the two cells at the run's ends, and taking either would make this a 3-ship, longer than anything the fleet still owes.
  4. 4Both ends are water, which seals the run and confirms it as a finished 2-ship.
